The January birthstone is the gem of inspiration and energy. The garnet is named
for it's visual similarities to the pomegranate seed. Garnets commonly are found
in red hues, but can also exhibit various colors with the exception of blue.
Garnets are most often mined in Africa, Sri Lanka, Brazil, India and the United
States.
