There are three varieties of pearl, the June birthstone. Natural pearls are the most rare. They develop and are found naturally in their own ocean habitats. Cultured pearls are started by hand and finished by nature, making them faster to cultivate and more easily matched. Freshwater pearls are cultivated in the worlds freshwater rivers and lakes. They vary greatly in color and are usually elongated in shape.
